The application uses Aadhaar numbers to verify who is the beneficiary of an income support, and when an application is received by the government, it gives the recipient details of the benefits that have been claimed and how much they have received.
The system uses the information collected from these tax returns to determine the eligibility of people for welfare schemes.
The government has claimed the system can save taxpayers over $30 billion every year, which is an effective amount of Rs1.3 lakh crore a year.
The Aadhaar data also enables the government to verify the identity of beneficiaries of income support schemes.
