Petsmart, one of the nation’s largest online retailers, is adding more than a dozen stores in Pennsylvania and New Jersey to open this fall.
The company announced Wednesday it would open its new retail center in the Philadelphia area, the latest in a series of expansion plans for the Philadelphia suburb.
The new retail facility, at 865 S. Main St., will be located in the former PetSmart site on Route 1 near Interstate 76, the company said in a news release.
The store will be the latest of several to open in Philadelphia this year.
The chain also announced plans to open a retail store in the city’s Chinatown neighborhood in September, and plans to reopen the former Piedmont Food Mart location in the same neighborhood in early 2018.
Petsmart also said it would expand its retail offerings in the Southeast region, with stores in Virginia Beach and Hampton Roads, Virginia.
The move to expand across Pennsylvania comes as the state struggles to compete with the fast-growing online pet industry.
